Wasn't a cassette version of this released.....i am not sure who read it....might have been John....can't recall now.
Anyway my question is will this ever see a CD release even if its just a specialist spoken word label thing like Ray's excellent 'Myth & reality' CD?

I definitely remember one by Ray, but wasn't sure about Riders On The Storm. If one was released, I would imagine it would be out of print now.

I'd really love to hear a cd version of ROTS or something similar. Myth & Reality is very good.
Maybe some of John's readings he did when the book came out were recorded??

John's performance of Spoker Word on Dennis Miller is pretty cool. John's a funny guy, and I've always thought so

And he does mention he is doing a section from the
audio version of the book.....its a cool spot....some took it the wrong way sadly but he injects a bit of fun into it and is at least honest about the whole thing......
Wonder what Ray and Robby folks thought about The End?
wonder if he did any more like that on US TV?

I bought a CD thinking it was John's book. It has the same title. Well, it's narrated by Kris Kristofferson and it has the surviving Doors input as well as Paul Rothchild, Danny Sugerman, Frank Lisciandro and Patricia Kennealy all telling of their memories and experiences with Jim. It is pretty interesting though to hear these people talk about Jim.

It may be. I got it off of ebay. I was looking in the liner notes and there is a list of other ones like it. There's some about Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones and some others I can't remember.

Just started to listen to it on disc and its pretty amazing to hear John read the book....he gives it that extra dimension that brings an emotional heart to his words in a similar way Jim's spoken word poetry does to the flat emotionless pages of the poetry books.....looking forward to hearing the rest....

Great to hear John actually singing the lyrics he uses in the book and also using the drums to enhance his storytelling.......pretty damn amazing....
Just out of interest has anyone got any info on the spoken word version?
Where was it recorded?
How long did it take to record?
Who was involved in it etc?
It certainly is a fantastic way to read a book hearing the author ......it's like being a kid again and getting a bedtime story....cool!!!

Is this on CD? If so, where can I get it? I can only find the cassette (8 in a set) for $65....I would really love to hear it but don't want to get a bunch of cassettes....any info would be appreciated......

Hi..
I'm not sure I've ever seen it on cd, just the cassette collection. I have it and recommend it very very highly. Hearing the inflections in John's voice, sometimes the emotion, not to mention the drumming and John singing the lyrics to the songs.. is well worth the hassle of cassettes. Get it! You'll be happy you did.

I wonder if there are any plans to bring this out again on CD for it's 20th anniversary.
Next year a good opportunity to re release this.
It's pretty cool hearing JD read his own book.
I have the CDs recorded from the original tapes but would be nice to hear it in a CD quality version.
