Well, I thought I would acknowledge soon as thou as above I have stated its age. its content perplexed some and pleased others and as we know hardcore critics said the doors were "slipping". Densmore has stated that this was the doors "sgt pepper" and was one of the most expensive albums to make. Waiting for the sun was mellower than the first two albums so what does a group do to stay current? Experiement of course. On the album we get to hear the doors experimenting with jazz musicicans something that ray and john had dreamed for. Horns and strings make their prominence on at least half the album, even robby sings a couple of lines, I love Running Blue one of my doors favs. We hear some studio chatter and laughter on Do it and a bit of country on side one's fadeout easy ride, a catchy tune but hardly belivable that Morriosn would go for something like that. Tell all the people reminds me of blood sweat and tears (thes sound) and of course the long track standout the soft parade where morrison deals with his pain and anguish over success and "all ours lives we sweat and save buliding to a shallow grave", was his message not to kaket the material life seriously?
As we know the doors endured difficulties with this album with jim and robby disagreeing over song content as in touch me and tell all the people, the buick as disagreement and also later with the miami incidnt, but the doors did a great PBS special with morrison's changing image and performed song of the soft parade songs without the stings. As patricia Kenneally said of this album "it wasn't so bad..." Hmmm yes pat it is a great album in a lot of respects but hard for some fans and critics to embrace it.
