Full Version: So, what gives with $10.00 LL forum TBA??
THE OFFICIAL JOHN DENSMORE FORUM > The Doors > General Doors Forum
PTLWP
I heard through the grapevine that the Doors with Jampol et al., were starting a new LL Doors format which will include a $10.00 fee to join, in order to "ferret out the hard core fans" from the hangers on as it were. blink.gif

I am wondering if anything will happen to the Densmore forum here and what to expect with the commencement of a for-pay Doors website. unsure.gif

I've heard nothing about the LL becoming a for-pay Doors site. I talked with Jeff a couple of weeks ago and he told me they were simply trying to go back to Invision Boards (like this one). If there is any truth to this for-pay thing, he did not mention it to me.

John's board will be staying as it is.

That's good news, indeed. I didn't think that John, if there is any veracity to this news, would have anything to do with such a scam. laugh.gif

What does LL mean? I'm glad Densmore's site remains a free haven for fans, maybe some advertisers will come on board and help out on the costs.BEST TS

I like INXS too but their website is a site you have to pay to access & it's more than $10.00 & I didn't join them. If The Doors are thinking of something like that I think they'll see a HUGE drop off. By the way haven't fans pretty much paid for everything a band has? We pay to buy the albums, concerts, DVD's etc so why the need to have a paying site for ANY band The Doors or not.

No need for the advertisers concerning the forum.

If paying $10 to join the Lizard Lounge will serve to repel those who simply want to hang out and blather about nothing, I'm all for it. And no, I won't pay dime one. For what?

This is a good point,

I just had to shell out for new Soft Parade and WFTS CDs, and my Best Of is getting worn out too. And I need to get L.A. Woman and Morrison Hotel on CDs (had those on vinyl and tape.) I can never find Strange Days on CD. I guess I'll have to go to ebay for that one (vinyl and no record player anymore.)
My point, the same fans buy their music over and over again, until they invent CDs that never skip.
I should have copied them all and listened to the copies, but I never got around to it.

I believe some bands - like Dave Matthews, off the top of my head - charge a small fee to be a member of what is really just a fan club, like the old days. You get preferential treatment when it comes to tickets, etc., so I guess that makes it worth a fee of some sort.

But if the LL is proposing to charge a fee, what are the benefits that you get for that fee? Not having to put up with nuisance posters? Advance notice of Doors events, i.e. the birthday celebration? Free t-shirt?

I guarantee that if anyone tries to get rid of "nuisance posters" by using $10.00 for a fee, it will be a place where nuisance posters will flock in the largest numbers. It's just that way with things like that. Nuisance posters would pay money to be a nuisance. laugh.gif

Last year both Springsteen's & Sting's site had discounts on tickets and both had so many problems in delivery of those tickets to fans that both had to issue apologies & refunds. The Doors already have proven somewhat ineffective on delivery of things, an example downloading live shows through the site, evaporated.

The Springsteen mess was mostly due to Ticketmaster though. It was a mistake on his part to get involved with them. I assume that Sting might have had the same issue. With Ticketmaster and Live Nation now partnered, thereby creating a monopoly and resulting federal investigation, I don't know what's going to be the upshot of these artist sites that require a fee. As far as charging for the privilege of posting at the Lizard Lounge, it remains to be seen if they're even going to do that, or simply switch back to the old board format, which seemed to work just fine anyway.

Hey let's face it,the music industry got hit hard by the internet and download sharing,it doesn't matter how rich you are,you still have a nut to pay each month. These living rock stars like Springsteen and Sting have to make the money on the road, but they still miss that residual money,so they'll try to make it back anyway they can.You know momma always needs knew jewelry.TS

Pfftttt...Springsteen made a deal with Wal-mart on his last CD enterprise and then defended himself, saying that he was unaware of the deal. BWAHAAAAAHHHH....sure Bruce, you don't have to sign off on a deal with Wal-Mart. Tell your fans another fairy story. laugh.gif

I was very surprised that he would wallow in the mire of WalMart myself, but now he's allegedly having (or recently had) an affair with some woman he met at the gym, when he's got a perfectly good wife.

In the end Springsteen is his own man and I think he's a good man, tremendous in all aspects of life, but after the super bowl, a scene way worse than any Door's Miami concert, at least Morrison gave a nice long speech before he Fu--ked his audience. Trivia?
The title of the album "Born In The U.S.A." is not credited to Springsteen, the title was owned by someone else. Can anyone tell me who this person was?

Bruce told the story at many of his concerts. Although I don't remember the name of the guy, the title "Born in the USA" was taken from a film script that some director wanted Bruce to write some songs for.

Paul Schrader the Taxi Driver and Raging Bull scribe, the movie eventually was made with the title "Light Of Day". Paul wanted Springsteen to star in the movie but the Boss passes because he knew he'd have little control over the movie making process and he was used to control in his music, good job Diane!
I was blown away when Springsteen said at the super bowl "See you at Disneyland",I guess he has a price like anyone else.Have a great week.TS

What a shill he was at the Superbowl. What a low class and insipid goings on. Shame on him; he's gone as low as he can go and has sold his soul as much as it can be sold.

Loads of karma to him and I hope he enjoys his money.....

Does anyone remember the movie "Mask" (1985)? This movie was based on a true story about a teenager named Rocky Dennis who has a facial disfiguration known as craniofacial disease. Rocky passed away from this disease in 1978 at the age of 16.

His favorite band was Bruce Springsteen and originally the filmmakers had chosen songs from the Springsteen catalog to include in the film. Springsteens' record company could not come to a deal on the payment of royalities for the use of the music in the film so the filmmakers substituted Bob Seger for the Springsteen songs.

In 2004 the Directors Cut of this film was released and the original Springsteen songs that were requested at the time of the movies release in 1985 were incorporated in the soundtrack for this new dvd release.

On a side note, when the casting of the film began Cher wanted her then boyfriend Val Kilmer to play the part of "Gar" but he was rejected as being too young for the part. Sam Elliot got the part of Gar.

The sad truth is that Doors music appeals to strange people. Sometimes good, creative, independent, strange people; but sometimes also messed up, disturbed people. Something about his vocal delivery & yelling is very pagan and spooky.

I think the LL should have paid me a modest stipend for all of the intelligent, well written, entertaining, humorous and thoroughly researched orginal material I provided them. I think JJ would charge $10 if he thought he could get away with it. It would be worth it only if you got a membership card and a secret decoder ring too.

The irony is that most of the really interesting threads have gone with the wind over there. Anyone hear anything more about the hacking - like was it? It certainly must have had some sort of major hit, because simply transferring one board to another doesn't take long at all.

Nice insight, shmild. That would apply all of the above to me and then some. Plus, you're post was number 27.
