I hate the fact that there are so many female fans on these forums and not so many male fans. I think in essence women destroyed Jim's life. I hate the fact that you girls are fans mostly because of his looks and a famous cock. Appreciate his music, his poetry and his perception...not how nature made him.

I'd be interested to know how you think "women destroyed Jim's life"...? I think we all pretty much know that it was ultimately Jim who destroyed Jim's life.

As far as your idiotic comment about women being fans because of Morrison's looks and his "famous cock"... you gotta be kidding me. I have been a fan of The Doors and their music for the better part of 35 years...and sure as hell not because of some appendage of Morrison's. That's probably one of the dumbest things I've ever read here.

Typical young stoned male point of view. laugh.gif

Typical that someone would use the whole "Helen of Troy" ploy. Jim was self-destructive and in a way, he tried to be a leader; he wanted to be followed. So how could his death be completely at the hands of the women he slept with? Although, I must admit Pam was annoying, she was Jim's "cosmic mate".

And the reason that I listen to The Doors as well as Jim Morrison's poetry recordings is because of his words. That's what stood out to me about their music, the words heavily lined with imagery and a sense of an uncertain yet absolute future. Morrison's looks have nothing to do with it. I just want something that's real, or "sacred" as Jim probably would've phrased it.
mojosmoothy
Jim Morrison's women where his muse, maybe men are your's? Thus your hatred toward the woman folk.Things are getting very clear around here, don't you think Mr.Vall? Also I might tell you for the 1,000th time Morrison did not like weed, drinker's don't normally run in the same pack with the heads.Jim Morrison said "I already think to much and pot makes me think more" thats the gist of it. It's also O.K. for you to toke out but don't come and try to find acceptance from Morrison here because he's dead.
jym
A comment not worthy of a rebuttal.

jim was everything to alot of people, he had the whole exciting package and then some. come on! mere human beings lost control. don't blame women or men. he was a superior human, that stepped out of himself to try and modivate, inspire and wake up all of us. that is how much i think he loved his fellowman.he represented life and death, eternity, a savor. our teacher. rethink your judgement . be happy you got the little you did from him. open the doors of perception and you will understand .

Many books and even the movie showed that there were 2 sides of morrison, the drunk, the poet. He was other things to, right? One reviewer said that he could have been the next thing to music like james dean was to movies. Don't forget the sixties people were still struggling to be heard and to say how they felt and what expressions to make them happy, jim is a great example of this, when he saw the living theatre before Miami he was elated enough to bring some of that on stage at a doors concert. He openly used profanity and the reason why I think and I have talked to some women about this is that they like the Oliver stone movie because val looked like jim and it did show a lot of cruelty towards Pam which I thionk spoils the morrison legend in some ways but some like it because they feel it entertaining but don't look to other aspects of his life, even pat kenneally said she did not see too much of jim in the movie, many others agreed. I have been a doors fan for nearly 20 years and developed an interest when the movie came out but did not see it straight away and at the time many books were being published, I am talking early ninties of course. I look at the doors as great musos, am a great fan of their music and do have an interest in music history.

Horses for courses as they say and you can have an interest in any aspect you like, many women and men express different thoughts on this forum, and it does not hurt to have a little admiration for what we are talking about and I find most women who contribute most articulate in their posts as well. I don't find anything one dimensional at all. They express poetry, articles and not just his looks.

Jim did not whip anything out in public though. Max Fink had over 100 witnesses to prove that at trial - though he was not allowed to present that testimony, which was the basis for the appeal, i.e. judicial malfeasance. Florida Rules of Court do not allow judges to limit or restrict witnesses, but Judge Goodman overlooked such niceties and railroaded Jim, after a bunch of gooberheads testifying for the prosecution stood with their hands on the Bible and lied their behinds off.

The photographer who took the lamb photo and was working almost under Jim's feet the entire time, testified that he never saw anything of the sort and he was watching him constantly through his view-finder.

The Doors music for me is a constant reminder that death is just around the corner. So instead of thinking about the future and whatnot, I live the moments. Get completely fucked up. and I mean COMPLETELY FUCK FACED.

laugh.gif Thank for clarifying that for me,

you just begin to believe it, you hear it enough times; such as the pissing on things, that's an animal behaviour, marking territories. The animalistic side of Jim may attract some women, but I don't need a pet, I need a man. Nor do I wish to babysit a grown man. Whose book was it that said they had to babysit Jim? Riders On The Storm correct? Can you debunk some of this for me too, thanks Sally. From what I hear, he would have been a nuisance for my type of personality, that's just what I get from the stories I hear. Looks are secondary for me, perhaps even third. I like Jim's intelligent side, the poet, but that other side would have killed it for me quick. One night with drunk Jim, and bye-bye.

~Sheri

The drunk Jim was the personality known as Jimbo. In my experience with him, let alone how many other recountings there are from the other Doors and various friends and acquaintances, it's obvious he had two very distinct sides to him, and Jimbo was the Mr. Hyde character. Ray has said that he wouldn't hesitate to introduce you to Jim, but he would do everything to keep you away from Jimbo. However, I don't believe Jim or Jimbo peed on any bar, and he would have been 86'd if he had. That's just some silly idea that came up last December, and the fans rose up in outrage at the very idea. Jim was certainly a person who indulged in risky behavior when inebriated - he seemed to favor walks along ledges for some reason. He did that at the Troubadour and was 86'd for it, as well as interrupting a show with heckling. That said, Jim could also sit and enjoy a few drinks and intelligent conversation as well, but that would depend on the company he was keeping at the time. I never drank with him, and I asked him to not call me if he was drunk. As far as I know, he never did.

I would not want to be around him if he was drunk either. Unless, I was more drunk. Ha ha, then we might be a dangerous pair; exactly why I can't drink. I have the two personality thing too, alcoholism runs in my family. I learned a long time ago, some people just can't drink and that's me. ~Sheri

And that was Jim as well.

You have no clue about no one of us, so your statement falls in the water from the beginning.

Nature made a gorgeous, outstanding man with fabulous way with words & a beautiful voice. Jim was more than just a face, & the people who love the Doors, who are real fans will agree. The girls who love Jim cos of his looks, are dope head groupies.

sadly i am not a necropheliac so i don't really see why i would be interested in a musician that has long since passed in any sexual way.
that said, i was drawn to jim morrison and the doors because of his use of poetics and because of the musical components that made the doors what they are.
my interests actually started with the many comparisons of jim morrison's work and that of my favorite french poet, arthur rimbaud. rimbaud's work changed my perception on the written word a lot and i was interested in the doors and morrison initially for the fact that he seemed to allude a lot to pieces of rimbaud's une saison en enfer.
although i could be wrong, research lead me there.

as far as women ruining his life, isn't that insulting not only to women (even if, granted, many rockstars have a tendency to attract women of a questionable nature...but then again...that's everyone.) but also to jim? for someone who seems to admire him so much, you do make it sound as if he had no responsibility for his life what-so-ever and that all of his decisions were in the hands of these so called women you despise?
love has a tendency to be volatile when you are young, but in the end it's you who decides if it will affect you or not.
i think jim had a lot more on his mind than his female consorts.

This actually seems to be a widely occuring phenomenon. Posters on boards asking why couldn't Ray, Robby & John stop Jim? Why didn't Pam? A lot of people leave one thing out of the equation: Jim Morrison. Jim did what he wanted he could have stopped any thing, at any time, Jim chose not to.

All you could do with Jim, vis a vis his self-destructive habits, was to discuss it with him, which he was okay with on an intellectual level. Typically, he felt he could quit any time he wanted, and I believe he did give it a good try in Paris and somewhat before he left LA, but it's impossible for an alcoholic to stop drinking without treatment and support. So, questions about why didn't this one and that one stop him simply illustrate that others believe that somehow his friends and family had more power over Jim than alcohol did. They didn't. Jim had no power over it either. That's the First Step, to admit that.

Jim couldn't stop drinking, even if he wanted to. Alcoholics have that problem. That's why AA and rehab, etc. exist.

Tom DiCillo had a conversation about alcoholism with Dylan, Jim's nephew. It seems that Dylan at least understands that his uncle had a problem/disease he couldn't overcome on his own.

That is really true. I guess that is why intervention is necessary...was alcoholism as openly discussed in the 60s as it is today?

Nah, it was a different time back then. Even though AA was around (and had been for decades), having a drinking problem equated to weakness of character, being a total loser, having a major problem, and the like. It wasn't until Betty Ford admitted her alcoholism in the 1970s that having a "drinking problem" started to come out. Since then, all sorts of celebrities have sought treatment and been open about it.

Also, back in the sixties, it was not touted that alcoholism is a disease and that it runs in families. Dylan is well aware of that fact. It wasn't just Jim in the family, either.
