Someone just sent me this link to You Tube. First song, "Moonlight Drive" (we've all seen).. second song "Light My Fire" (when Jim gets tangled in the wire prop at the end).. is something I've never seen.

Thanks for posting this. If I remember correctly they were showing snippets of Light my Fire at the Grammy Awards.

Say it ain't so, Jim!

The Jonathan Winters Show version of "Light My Fire" is a MASSIVE disappointment. The only gripe I've ever had against Jim Morrison is his total lack of interest singing the song correctly and with no enthusiasm even in concert. Flat and boring.

In concert when you can hear Ray singing back-up, Ray actually phrases the words correctly and sings it better than Jm. Even Jose Feliciano sang the song right!

The Ed Sullivan Show version is the definitive and the most exciting version. And Jim looked great. He sounded great.

The Jon Winter Show...crap!!!!!!!! What happened?

Did Jose release his version of the song before the Jonathan Winters Show? You're right, the Feliciano version presents the song in the form the writers possibly intended. Jim was the first artist to record it - but he was not interested in being artistically chained to one hit. Jim did his version. It was excellent. Jose did his version. It was excellent. Light My Fire is a great catalog item for a music publisher. It's a classic song. The Chipmunks could record it (though I sincerely hope they don't). It's made very nice money for the writers over the years.

Jonathan Winters is quite a quirky character his own self. Gotta link?

You can tell he completely lost his voice right at the end and had to shift octaves.......effectively screwing it up. At that point, he probably thought he might as well turn it into absurd.

You can hardly see what's happening at the end anyway, because its fuzzy. Everyone laughs when jim falls into the ropes. John refers to this performance in his book in his open letter to jim and asks "what was bothering you on the show" as john was describing and recalliong as if to jim what was happening in search of some needed answers. I think at this stage of his career they had performed this song over 200 times anyway and was a hit at this stage. (no pun intended!) or at this time.

Regarding The Chipmunks...I would love to listen to Alvin and company sing "Light My Fire." I think it would be wonderfully hilarious..maybe do a whole CD of Doors songs. laugh.gif

Of course! Can't you just hear it, with Donald Duck doing back up vocals! laugh.gif

I used to have a co-worker who would sing Doors songs in a Donald Duck voice, cracked me up ever time.

She could also stick her fist in her mouth, a great talent.

I'd never seen that playing in the fence wire myself but after seeing it,I assume he did that for theatrical purposes, not a mistake. The entire show is so well done and Jim is in rare form and I guarantee that's due to Jonathan Winters who is a great comic and also entirely insane, but in the good way,I'm sure he put the Doors at ease,it's apparent by the performance, especially for a television show.
