I did a one day workshop on drumming for wellbeing where we just played different rhythms tipping away on a set of drums (sort of like bongos, alas, I forget the name of the drum) but it was a good experience and it was just random playing no experience necessary and only for one day. You hold the drum between your knees, slightly at an angle and bang in the middle and tipping near the end of the drum to create a rhythm pattern. I remember john talking about doing this with some prison inmates for a doco called project return, it gives non-musos a go. Highly recommended.
