Two Magellanic Clouds

Have a million starry eyes,
All around,  in-between;
Metallicity, brightness bold,
Both very young & very old.

They clash, then unite,
Near The Sagittarius Stream; I'm told
That collisions fueling, their constant dueling,
Is why they'll never stay the same.

These phantasms of twilight share one name~

This changeling pair, enamored both,
Transfixed it seems to the spot;
Observed and to observe them,
Spattered as of fuchsia blood,
Green ghosted, mists of form,
Copper gilded wings adorn,
Clotted, gaseous draughts of air.

One the dark, the other fair;
They lie beside her nebulous lair.
Spiraling fingers reach for her hair.

Never will she draw them near~

As dance she on the rising day,
You will spot, not far away,
Two Magellanic Clouds.

Thank you bike,

I was conflicted over the rhymey-rhyme portion of, fair.. lair... hair.. but when I tried to change it.. I missed these lines, so, I let it do it's thing. That article, as well as these photos were my inspiration. I wrote this just to pass the evening. I enjoy writing for you guys, and to entertain myself for a while.

Hi Sheri,

You made me learn something new with this poem. It's the first time I have heard of the Magellanic Clouds. Fascinating. I particularly like the lines above for the colours and the associated sensations they conjured up for me.

Hi Helen,

Words can be magical to me. Like when I heard of the "Noctilucent Clouds" in Bikerbrom's poem, there was a magical sound in that word. The same thing happened to me when I read about the Magellanic Clouds. When I read more on them and saw that they were nearby galaxies, visible around dawn in the southern hemisphere, it had the same effect as producing a kind of magic spell seen at the magic hour.

I was finally able to post the photo along with the poem to show you the inspiration for the lines you've highlighted, a kind of astronomical masterpiece that words fail.

Thank you so much Granger,

I'm going to have to get back into my poetry this summer. I miss my friends and writing with them all here <3
